God’s Eternal and Enduring Word

God’s Eternal and Enduring Word

God’s Word is forever. Psalm 119:89 tells us that the Word of the Lord is eternal and stands firm in heaven. Even though the grass withers and the flowers fade, the word of the Lord our God endures forever. (Isaiah 40:8)

In the ebb and flow of what the world around us believes, changing almost day by day, we can rely on the Word of our Living God. We often see that what we are told is right and true and moral and proper, in the media, from our friends and neighbours, is at odds with what God has told us through His Word.

How and what, then, should we believe. If we cast ourselves on the cares, whims, and opinions of our society, then we are nothing more than a cork in a stormy sea. We read in Hebrews 1:3 that Jesus not only radiates God’s Glory, and expresses God’s very character, he sustains everything by the mighty power of His command; that is, His Word. It is this same Word that sustains us.

In Jesus there is wisdom and knowledge. (Colossians 2:3) In Jesus there is enduring strength and stability. Even though my health fails, my spirit grows weak, “God remains the strength of my heart; he is mine forever.” (Psalm 73:26)

The Bible tells us that we are held in God’s right hand, he guards us and protects us. He provides us with counsel. What else on earth should we desire when God is for us in Heaven?

The Sovereign Lord is our shelter. (Psalm 73:28) We are here on the earth to know His love. The Apostle Paul tells us that through our faith, we come to know that breadth, length, height and depth of the Love of our God that surpasses knowledge. It’s not something we can define, but it is something that in our hearts we instinctively know.

It is through His Eternal Word that we can live in Truth, knowing the deep and abiding love of Christ.
